Call for Applications: A-i-R Barents 2015

A-i-R Barents is an exchange program for professional artists, craft artists, curators, photographers, critics and researches working in the field of visual arts in North-Norway and Northwest- Russia.

Professional artists, craft artists, curators, photographers, critics and researches working in the field of visual arts in North-Norway (Nordland, Troms and Finnmark) and Northwest-Russia (Arkhangelsk, Karelia, Murmansk and Leningrad oblast) can apply for A-i-R Barents program in 2015.

Applicants from North-Norway can apply for 2-4 weeks long research or production residencies in Arkhangelsk, Karelia, Murmansk and St Petersburg.
Applicants from Russia can apply for 2-4 weeks long research or production residencies in Nordland, Troms and Finnmark.

It will be possible to combine the stay at different guest studios in the network during the residency.
The program offers a residency grant and travel support.

The program offers possibilities to create and present new works in exhibitions, artist talks, to do research and get to know local art scene and artists. The results of the residences will be presented in exhibitions and events in North-Norway and Northwest-Russia. The main goal of the program is to strengthen the visual arts network in North-Norway and Northwest-Russia and encourage new artistic productions.


A-i-R Barents 2015 is a collaboration between Guest studio/Troms County Cultural Center (Troms County Council), A-i-R Nordland (Nordland County Council), Vadsø Guest Studio (Finnmark County Council), Ministry of culture of the Arkhangelsk region, Arkhangelsk Artist Union Murmansk Artist Union, Committee of Culture and Arts of the Murmansk Region, Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Karelia, Karelian art residence (AiR Karelia), and St. Petersburg Art Residency at the art centre “Pushkinskaya-10”.

High North A-i-R Network: A-i-R Barents 2015 is supported by project partners and BarentsKult.

For 2017 & 2018 we are part of the exhibition and artist in residence project Migration from a Northern Perspective with Nordnorsk Kunstnersenter in Svolvær, Boden Havremagasinet, Pikene på Broen and Oulu Photographic Centre. We will have an exhibition in October 2017 and several residencies connected to this project funded by Nordic Culture Fond and others.
